Dallas White Rock Marathon - Great Race (a little wisdom)
A little late here, but I did complete the Rock on 12/10/06. What a great run. The hill at mile 20 was no fun, but overall it was great. Yes there was a huge emotional breakdown toward the end. I did not feel that way on my second (Miami) marathon.
I came in at 3:45 and felt good about it. It was comparable to the 8:37/mile pace I ran over 22 miles a few weeks before, so I was actually a little let down. Somehow I thought I woudl have improved over the 22 mile pace simply due to the excitement.
Great course, great people, a good time. The venue (AA Center) was perfect. Easy and plentiful parking and a very well run event.
My 6 mistakes (In hopes that you can avoid them):

My 6 mistakes (In hopes that you can avoid them):
- At the end I did not move enough. Keep moving, moving, moving.
- I stopped for a bad picture and a free Hummer hat. Don't stop even to return the chip for a couple of minutes.
- I relied upon the post-race food. There is never enough protein. Bring with your gear a container with a protein and carb shake that is easy to digest.
- I let my muscles tighten (see moving, moving, moving). Get to your stretches ASAP
- Do you ever have pain after a long run. I did and had nothing to help. Throw 4 Motrin into your gear sack for after the race.
- I had no ice packs, but could have used one or two. Go to the medical tent for ice and Motrin if you need it. You probably need it. Be a wimp and live another day.
